Day 1

I did it! I met my goal of 1,000 words today.

Thanks for all your support on my last post about my plan for the first draft.

I can't lie; it didn't come easily. No matter how much planning I do, it always takes some time to get to know my characters. Plus, starting with a blank page is pretty scary. I finally ended up tricking myself by starting a new document and naming it "Brainstorming." I used almost everything I wrote when I was "brainstorming."

Anyone have any good tricks for getting unstuck?

  2. Congratulations!!! I agree with CJ, sometimes starting is the hardest. As for getting unstuck--through a conflict at your main character (MC). Whether you keep it in or not won't matter, but you'll learn more about how they react.

  3. Congratulations! It's always a relief to meet a goal. The curse of the blinking cursor--I sometimes get over by writing by hand. It's so much easier for me to cross something out on paper than to delete. Don't know why, but sometimes it's the only way I can jumpstart.

  5. Congratulations on pushing through and meeting your goal! When I get stuck, I visualize what my characters may be doing Right Now, even if it is early morning and they may be just making coffee. It gets me into their life again.
Thank you for dropping by my blog. I look forward to reading about all the other goals you will be meeting!

  6. I have a trick that doesn't necessarily always work, but mostly. Write down at least ten problems you can give your MC right now. That works for me. ;)

  7. Good job on making your goal! I love T. Anne's advice up above. Might try that one myself!
